A Legacy From Barbaro
"Our Shattered Dreams"
|
Richard Parker,
Mentor, Ohio
|
| |
|
|
|
| In A Span Of Months, A Creature's Life Passed Us By,
Felled In A Crushing Splinter Of Bones,
Resistant To All His Keepers Try. |
| |
As Millions Maintained Weeks Long Vigil,
Others Scoffed The Cards And Scorned The Ritual.
|
| |
|
|
|
There Is A Point That Some May Say,
Why This Equine Evoked A Special Way.
But In This Hour Of His Most Urgent Need,
Humans Felt Guilty, And Driven To Succeed.
|
| |
|
|
|
Weeks Prior, One Sunny Day,
At The Most Important Race,
His Innocent Life Had Flashed Across Our Screens,
As He Set That Extraordinary Pace,
|
| |
He Fired Our Immaginations,
To See What Some Can Do.
Those Waves of Muscles,
Pushing Their Way To Move Out And Through.
|
| |
He Won So Sleek And Powerful,
So Majestic And Unstoppable,
To All It Would Utterly Astound,
He Was Certain To Win The Triple Crown.
|
| |
When His Little Life Earlier Began,
As A Pony, On A Farm, In Our Heartland,
He Like Us, Romped And Played,
Growing Up, Trying To Please Along The Way. |
| |
For All It Appears Our Destinies Ought To Be,
Nothing Here For Certain Can Give That Guarantee. |
| |
He Did What He Was Asked To Do,
In Our Solitude, We Reflect, If We Do Too.
For Much We Try Does Not Measure Up.
ExpectationsWhen Shattered, End So Abrupt. |
| |
Sometimes Those We Care About So Very Much,
Shut Us Out, Leaving Little Or Nothing To Clutch.
Is It Our Fault That This Can Be So?
Or Is It A Purpose For Which We Will Never Know? |
| |
When We Might Think We Almost Had It All,
Suddenly A Slip And Then A Long Fall. |
| |
Will Your Life Really Be More Certain,
Or Different Then Barbaro?
And If It Can,
Do You Dare Expect It So? |
